The median car insurance rate in the United States is lower for women than man.
According to a leading online insurance comparison provider, the current national median rate for women is $698 for a six month policy. The median rate for men is $765. Experts say the nine-percent difference may be due to the way men and women shop for insurance.
An examination of drivers shopping for insurance found that women are almost 50 percent less likely than men to have a DUI/DWI on their driving record.
Women are also 10 percent less likely to have a moving violation on their record, according to the study. Similarly the average list price for a vehicle owned by a woman is over eight percent lower than the list price of vehicles owned by men. All of these factors contribute to the increased rate.
